Windmill Zinfandel

The next wine my husband and I tried was one that he picked out.  He is a red and I am a white.  Needless to say I was pretty sure this wasn't going to be to my liking.  But I gave it a try anyway....can't pass up any wine I guess!  It is a zinfandel from California.  When I smelled the wine at first it sort of took my breath away (the way you know a wine is going to be dry).  It also had a sort of cinnamon or cloves smell to it as well as taste.  It was very dry and had a strong bite to it.  Again, not my kind of wine.  I did drink my entire glass.  This would be the type of wine that would pair well with a heavy pasta (spaghetti or lasagna type).  Travis was also iffy on this one so not sure we will buy it again.  I would give it 3 out of 5 stars!

Leonard Kreusch 2011 Piesporter Michelsberg

Brief overview: Would buy again!  Crisp, refreshing, fruity....4 out of 5 stars!

The first wine we tried was a Piesporter Michelsberg.  I thought the wine was very crisp and refreshing.  It was medium bodied....not too dry but not too sweet.  I enjoyed the fact that it didn't have much of a bite.  It had a fruity taste (I am thinking a hint of apple somewhere in there).  It was light in scent as well.  It wasn't overly expensive (need to go back to HyVee and get the exact price to post).  I would buy this wine again.....would be great for sitting on the patio this spring or summer watching the world go by!

My husband and I are starting our wine journey together.  Neither of us are big drinkers (at least not since we had kids!) but we do enjoy a glass of wine now and then.  The problem is that we go to the wine store and can't remember what we have had before and if we like it.  So....that is why we are starting this blog.  It is to help us capture what wines we have had (before cheap and expensive) and what we thought of them.  I am sure we don't know all the proper language to use but this is more for us when we get to the store!  Maybe it can give a few others out there an idea or two as well.  Thanks for sharing this journey with us!
